We are proud to support our client, one of the UK's leading off rid energy distributors, with the recruitment of a Hazardous Area Lead Technician.
In this vital role, you'll lead the delivery of electrical projects across hazardous environments throughout the UK. Working closely with project managers and engineering leadership, you'll take the lead to ensure project safety and efficiency and contribute hands-on when required.
The Role:
Lead on-site electrical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.
Act as the primary on-site contact, coordinating with project managers and internal stakeholders.
Split your time effectively between office-based coordination and on-site work (typically 50/50).
Liaise with suppliers to manage the sourcing and delivery of electrical materials and equipment.
Oversee the build of bespoke LPG refuelling systems at Staveley, Derbyshire.
Support installation of new customer LPG and LNG systems across the UK, providing hands-on input where necessary.
Manage inspection and remedial works for customer installations, ensuring compliance and timeliness.
Contribute to full plant overhauls and upgrade projects across the infrastructure.
Support assembly of LPG vaporisers, pump skid units, and package boiler houses for deployment.
Participate in regular Teams meetings to report progress, align with project teams, and contribute to planning.
The Person:
Significant experience in hazardous area electrical installation and commissioning.
Strong understanding of ATEX regulations and safety practices.
Proven track record of coordinating multi-site electrical projects, ideally in the petrochemical or gas sector (LPG/LNG preferred).
Confident managing workload and processes in a dynamic engineering environment.
Familiarity with bespoke energy systems such as LPG refuelling stations, vaporisers, and skid units.
JIB Gold Card or equivalent (Approved Electrician status).
COMPEX EX01-EX04 or IECEx CoPC Modules EX001-EX008.
City & Guilds 2391, 2391-52, or 2394 & 2395 (Inspection and Testing).
City & Guilds 2382-22 (18th Edition, including Amendment 2).
Level 3 Electrical Installations qualification (BS7671:2018+A2:2022).
Valid safety certification: CCSNG, JIB, SSSTS, or equivalent.
Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments.
IPAF and PASMA licenses (advantageous).
Competent with ATEX/IECEx-rated equipment installations, including motors, junction boxes, lighting, etc.
Skilled in installing metal containment systems, SWA cabling, LV distribution equipment.
Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and hazardous area zoning diagrams.
Strong IT literacy (Excel, MS Office) for scheduling, reporting, and team coordination.
Confident communicator who can engage effectively with team members, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Proficient in electrical fault finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of control systems.
Knowledge of NICEIC certification and reporting.
