Responsibilities
- Set up and configure plastic injection moulding machines, including loading moulds, connecting utilities, and securing setups for production runs, in alignment with production schedules.
- Troubleshoot issues during machine start-up and optimize machine parameters to ensure products meet production and quality standards.
- Perform systematic machine adjustments, including setting process parameters such as temperature, pressure, and cycle time, for optimal performance.
- Accurately interpret and implement mould setup sheets, quality specifications, and work orders to meet job requirements.
- Monitor and inspect product quality through visual and dimensional checks, making adjustments as necessary.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality assurance, engineering, and maintenance, to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Train and mentor junior team members or operators on injection moulding processes, proper machine operation, and safety protocols.
- Maintain precise documentation of production settings, output, material usage, downtime, and quality control data.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, consistently following best practices to ensure personal and team safety.
- Initiate and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing cycle times, waste, and improving productivity.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (typically 2+ years) as a Plastic Injection Moulding Technician, with hands-on expertise in mould setup, parameter adjustment, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of injection moulding machinery, processes, and tooling, including setting machine parameters for various materials and products.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as blueprints, work orders, and schematics.
- Familiarity with different types of plastics (e.g., thermoplastics, thermosets) and their material properties as related to moulding processes.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair machinery issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills to facilitate smooth production and problem-solving.
- Knowledge of quality assurance processes, including usage of measurement tools and interpreting quality standards.
- Proven commitment to safety protocols and adherence to workplace safety regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; technical certification or specialized training in plastic injection moulding is highly preferred.
Day-to-Day
- Begin your day by reviewing production schedules, selecting appropriate moulds, and setting up injection moulding machines, including securing moulds and connecting water, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Perform machine start-ups, validate process parameters, and troubleshoot any start-up issues to ensure quality production.
- Perform mold changes as required, including resetting process parameters based on material and product specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections of the production line, checking for part consistency, and addressing deviations immediately.
- Work closely with machine operators to address minor operational concerns and provide technical guidance on running machines efficiently.
- Monitor real-time performance of injection moulding equipment and record critical production metrics such as cycle times, reject rates, and material consumption.
- Provide preventative maintenance support or minor mechanical repairs as needed to keep equipment in peak condition.
- Wrap up the day with detailed documentation of production runs, settings, and recommendations for future improvements, ensuring smooth handoffs to the next shift if applicable.
