  • Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week

Responsibilities For A Traffic Management Operative

As a Traffic Management Operative, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management systems, including positioning cones, signs, frames, sandbags, and other equipment on low-speed roads.
  • Ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic around roadworks or other obstructions.
  • Executing tasks in compliance with all health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors to manage traffic systems efficiently.
  • Maintaining high standards of professionalism while working in an outdoor setting, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.

Qualifications For A Traffic Management Operative

To be successful in the role, we are looking for candidates who meet the following essential requirements:

  • Certified LANTRA Number (must be able to provide proof).
  • Experience: Direct experience working with traffic management systems and programs.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid Lantra Card/12AB/12A/12B/12D qualifications.
    • A full UK Driving Licence (required for travel to different work sites).

Day-to-day

A typical day as a Traffic Management Operative will involve:

  • Beginning your day at the depot where you’ll receive your traffic management instructions and necessary equipment for the day.
  • Travelling to the designated site and ensuring the safe deployment of temporary traffic management systems.
  • Monitoring traffic at active roadwork zones to ensure smooth movement and public safety.
  • Communicating with your team and supervisors to address any issues or updates throughout the day.
  • Performing daily checks and maintenance of traffic equipment, tools, and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Reporting back to the supervisor or depot at the end of the day to debrief and prepare for the next shift.
