Responsibilities
As a Quality Assurance Operative, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and safety of our products by monitoring production processes and adhering to strict standards. Along with quality assurance tasks, your role will include involvement in the slaughtering of chickens as per industry and ethical standards. Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting product quality inspections, ensuring compliance with health, safety, food hygiene, and animal welfare regulations.
Monitoring the entire production process, including slaughtering, to ensure quality control at every stage.
Accurately recording data and preparing quality assurance reports.
Collecting and testing product samples to ensure they meet designated quality requirements.
Identifying and resolving any quality or compliance issues, raising concerns to the management team as required.
Assisting in audits and inspections conducted by internal and external bodies.
Ensuring proper procedures are followed in the humane slaughtering of chickens and processing for the highest standards of quality.
Maintaining proper documentation and adhering to company, regulatory, and ethical guidelines.
Collaborating with operation teams to ensure that safety and quality policies are implemented effectively.
Helping to train staff on quality standards, food handling, and proper poultry slaughtering processes when necessary.
Performing other duties as required to meet the business's growing needs.
Shifts vary on schedule, £13.84phr but can increase to £20.76 phr.
Qualifications
We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and experience levels. Full training will be provided, including in chicken slaughtering processes, but the ideal candidate would bring:
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to high standards of quality, safety, and ethical compliance.
Previous experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, or poultry processing (preferable but not required).
Knowledge of food hygiene, HACCP principles, or food safety standards (Level 2 or higher in Food Safety is a bonus).
An understanding of welfare standards related to chicken slaughtering (training provided).
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced production environment.
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new processes.
The role involves standing for prolonged periods, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and engaging in physical tasks, including handling chickens in the slaughtering process. A level of physical fitness to meet these requirements is essential.
Day-to-day
Performing visual and physical inspections on finished products, raw materials, and processing stages (including slaughtering).
Checking labels, packaging, and product temperature to ensure compliance with specifications.
Ensuring humane and ethical slaughtering of chickens, in adherence to industry regulations and guidelines.
Liaising with the production and technical teams to highlight and address non-conformances.
Adhering to health, safety, and hygiene standards in all work performed.
Conducting sample collection for laboratory testing and accurately recording findings.
Communicating effectively with colleagues, ensuring all issues are resolved promptly.
Participating in regular team meetings to review updates and address any quality or welfare concerns.
